The third big idea of our Code is that Movements Move.
Basically, healthy things grow... both in width and in depth.
If a movement is healthy, you will see it growing in both directions.
For example, we saw a movement occur recently in our region when 135 people in less than 18 months
went public with their faith through public baptisms:
Praise God! That's one hundred thirty-five men, women, and students standing up and declaring loudly and undeniably that Jesus is ruling and reigning in their lives! When that kind of growth happens in such a short span of time, that's called a movement in width!
A movement in depth is when the leaders are committed to constant learning, adapting, and improvement. What worked in the past should be appreciated for working in that era, just as new methods need to always be embraced for an ever-changing world. Timeless truths must always be shared in timely ways.
At Life Church, this is one of our values: Movements Move. Our new church start-up is committed to growing both in width and in depth. We are choosing to be less Atari and more Apple, joining God's continuing movement of changed lives.
We will always maintain a posture of learning new methods. We will always narrow the focus in all we do.
We think steps, not programs.
