"A Level 5 leader (is) an individual who blends extreme personal humility with intense professional will." - Jim Collins in Good to Great
This quote could easily be attributed to this week's Super Cool Person at Catalyst. He brought his family to our launch back in September and they haven't missed a Sunday since. He and his wife were actually the first couple to join Catalyst as Missional Members once we had gone public. And he continues to pour his heart out every Sunday morning whether it's on stage or behind the scenes. This week's Super Cool Person is Jack Jabbour.
Jack has 4 qualities that shine:
1) Jack is a committed life-long learner. Coming out of a church background that emphasized legalistic rules over grace and forgiveness, Jack is a voracious reader of theology books. Before he and his wife joined Catalyst, they actually had Amber & me over for dinner... where Jack promptly hounded me with tough theology questions. I love it! Here's a guy who is serious about leading his family and protecting them from false doctrine.
2) For Jack, serving at church is not an option. Seriously, the man is not lacking in self-motivation. I just found out that even though he has this week off from drumming in the band, he emailed our Cultural Architect asking to be put onto another Ministry Team to serve this Sunday! Wow - most guys would welcome a Sunday "off." Not Jack. He understands the importance of doing whatever-it-takes to impact our Guests each week.
3) Jack is sacrificial when it comes to advancing the Kingdom. In pinches in the past, I've been able to call Jack on an hour's notice for help moving things for Catalyst in his truck. He's always there, no questions asked. When we moved to The Kent Stage and realized we would need a drum set, what does Jack do? He goes out and BUYS a brand new drum set for the church! That's sacrifice.
4) Finally, Jack dates his wife. This is important - he's embracing Ephesians 5 and setting a great example for the young men at our church. Romance in marriage is important but not often seen. I appreciate this about him. Thanks for being Super Cool!
