I was just re-reading Numbers 13 & 14, where 12 Israelite scouts are sent on a reconnaisance mission to check out the promised land and report back.
10 freak out about the Nephilim living there (giants - Goliath's cousins). Only Joshua (who later gets a book named after him) and Caleb argue for taking the land. Caleb's push for moving forward is simple:
"Let's go up and take the land - now. We can do it." (Num 13.32, MSG)
Caleb knows that God's fingerprints are all over this thing. But the people continue to freak out, God gets ticked, and hands the people over to their sin. Nobody gets to go into the promised land because of their lack of faith in God's goodness and promise. With the exception of Joshua & Caleb. God says,
"But my servant Caleb - this is a different story. He has a different spirit; he follows Me passionately. I'll bring him into the land he scouted and his children will inherit it" (Num 14.24).
That's sweet stuff - because Caleb's spirit had confidence in Who God is and what He was promising to accomplish through them, Caleb is assured of being ushered into the land of Israel.
I want to be like Caleb, who God said followed Him 'passionately.' What a description to be given by your Maker! The Lord honors such dangerous faith. May Catalyst be a movement of confident Christ-followers who are fearlessly passionate about the Name.
