Currently reading a phenomenal new leadership book (on the advice of Bob Franquiz) with our staff team, Axiom, an amazingly good read. Explains the author:
"Great leaders do their homework so that weariness and unsteadiness are kept at bay."
Loving this book. It's amazing how you forget how much of your personal fire has been doused over the course of time and life until you get near enough to another red-hot flame.
Just finished Category 1: Vision and Strategy. Some of what I underlined (my thoughts italicized):
"Create rallying cries."
- Bingo. The shorter and crisper, the better.
Human memory is short.
"...I frequently had to remind myself that I was going to have to be absolutely shameless in asking people to join me in this grand, God-glorifying endeavor."
- This statement is so true in church planting.
I'm discovering that the more I raise the risk as a leader, the more likely fellow Christ-followers are to jumping the hurdle. I'm not called to apologize and shy away from God's vision for Kent/Akron; I'm called to be the biggest cheerleader for Catalyst!
"You will never take big hills without making
bold moves."
- Fear paralyzes. Faith enables & releases.
"They will only sacrifice for the vision if you will."
- Talk about a gut-check reminder! I cannot wait to dive into Category 2 in the coming days...
