Do you know Murphy’s Law? It is basically if something can go wrong, it will. We experienced this first-hand when we decided to put our house on the market. The first thing that went wrong was the hot water heater started leaking. My dad was in town and was able to help me find the most economical way to replace it. It still dipped into our e-fund to a significant degree. I began to stress about how to replenish it.
God must just look down at us sometimes and laugh. I think of times when Josiah gets all concerned and stressed about something that Jon and I can easily fix. We look at his worry as silly and pointless because we know the solution. God sees the beginning from the end and knows the solutions to our problems. I am constantly amazed at His unchanging love for us despite our lack of trust and belief!
A week after the hot water heater incident, Jon got an opportunity to share a piece of our journey at near-by church. The pastor knew his people were generous in prayer and finances. His hope was that they would show that generosity to us. There was no love offering taken up. The pastor simply stated, “I know God is prompting some of you to help out the Herron’s in some way.” The services ended and we literally had a line of people waiting to talk to us and place financial gifts in our hands. It was a surreal experience. We left those church services with enough money to replace what we used for the hot water heater + extra! God’s faithfulness abounds!
I have learned that God will meet you half-way. Jonathan and I were doing all that we could to bring in cash and to be good stewards of our money. God used others to meet us half-way. A group of people from Catalyst Church faithfully continued giving for the purpose of sustaining us during our transition period. It was such a blessing to see God’s provision through the people we loved and had served for four years. We even had some very generous gifts come in from young couples who had since moved out of the area. Jonathan and I were totally blown away by this tangible expression of love! We did what was natural (worked and saved) and God came along and put his SUPER on it! We did not once receive the full pay amount that Jon had received for his salary, yet we had PLENTY. God supernaturally provided and kept our pot of oil full (2 Kings 4).
Yeah--God does all that. Experiencing God's grace & love is an unforgettable experience.
